Many times after you have reached your destination in another country, you notice that the voltage of power supplied there is different from that of your residence. The plug outlets used there might also be different from the ones you normally use. Hence, if you plug in your appliances into the power without checking the voltage available there, your appliances will get burnt or damaged unnecessarily. In other cases, the plug outlets available in those countries might not match which the plug type you use at home. In any case, your electrical appliance will be rendered unusable.

There are a few important things which you must check before going overseas or to another country. These are:

  1. Check on the internet to find out about the voltage of power and type of plug outlets used in your destination country.

  2. Check what type of pins are used in the country to plug in the electrical appliances. There are usually plug adapters to accommodate two types of pins: ones that accommodate 2-pin plugs and second type which accommodate 2-pin and 3-pin grounded and non-grounded plugs.

  3. Find out if the voltage in that country is stable or keeps fluctuating. In the second case, take with you an adapter with a surge protector.

  4. It is preferable to take a grounded adapter instead of an ungrounded one.

  5. Also take with you the appropriate transformer or voltage converter that your electrical appliances may require.

Most of these are available in kits that are easy to carry. They can be purchased either from local stores in the destination country or from some online stores.
